This is especially valuable for patients who live far from the practice or rely on mobile clinics, community health centers, or school-based programs. It can also reduce unnecessary schedule disruption by routing patients more accurately.

2. Preventive screening in community settings

Schools, long-term care settings, federally qualified health centers, and rural outreach events are strong environments for asynchronous teledentistry, also called store-and-forward. A hygienist, assistant, or trained community health worker can collect images, health history, and basic findings, then send them to a supervising dentist for review.

This model works well for identifying untreated decay, periodontal concerns, urgent pathology referrals, and children who need definitive care. It is often the most practical format when broadband is limited or dentist time must be used efficiently.
